It's all in the details

It's all in the details

I spend a lot of my time wearing magnifying visors, and for good reason. Many of my pieces are accented with small stones or little gold embellishments here and there, laid out carefully with tiny tweezers because they are too small for fingers. The soldering that I use to join these various elements requires careful attention. I often find myself praying to the soldering gods, hoping that everything stays in place. Often, though, the application of the heat to the solder causes the elements to dance around on the silver sheet, and it’s back to resetting everything. It is definitely worth it in the end when I see all the puzzle pieces in place.

My husband has always been fascinated by the way I use paper to add texture and character to my silver. It’s amazing what a little bit of fancy paper and a rolling mill can do to sheets of silver. It’s a detail that you will find on both the front and back of most of my work because I want you to see that I pour my love into the whole piece. You will also see my love on each tiny vertically hammered notch on many of my ring shanks, made with a specially crafted hammer that I sanded myself to create a sharp knife edge. All these various tools help an artist create special, one-of-a-kind pieces.
