I’ve always loved how the shape of a half-moon feels both ancient and grounded, so I hand-hammered these gold-filled half-moons to catch the light in a soft, organic way. The real joy of crafting these was choosing the row of little gemstones to dangle underneath. I wanted a mix of colors that felt vibrant, but earthy, so each earring carries a colorful cluster of green strawberry quartz, vibrant carnelian, lavender amethyst, lush green diopside, and a drop of classic blue natural turquoise (Arizona). I really like the colors, and I hope they bring a little bit of warmth and joy whenever you wear them. Earrings are 2.2 gram each, and they hung 1 1/2" long.
What is gold filled? - It is a regulated material made by mechanically bonding a thick layer of solid gold alloy to a base metal core (usually jeweler's brass) using heat and pressure. Despite the name, it is not actually "filled" with gold; rather, the solid gold is wrapped securely around the outside. It is x 2.5 more expensive than sterling silver. To legally be classified as gold-filled, the gold content must account for at least 5% (1/20th) of the item's total weight. This makes it a highly durable, high-quality, and affordable alternative to solid gold.
